
Project Introduction
The Dick’s House of Sports project at the St. Louis Galleria required new foundations for a clear-span structural system, an elevator shaft serving the facility’s upper levels, interior climbing-wall elements, and signage. Because the work occurred within and adjacent to an occupied structure, settlement control, vibration limitation, access, and constructability were critical considerations throughout the project.
REN provided both foundation engineering and specialty construction services. The firm served as Engineer of Record for the micropile foundation system and prepared sealed Missouri PE calculations and drawings in accordance with the governing building code, FHWA micropile guidance, applicable ACI standards, and project requirements.
REN installed a total of 50 drilled and grouted micropiles across the project’s structural elements. The micropiles were designed for approximately 90 kips of axial load per pile and were socketed into limestone bedrock to provide reliable support and limit long-term settlement. Five of the micropiles were installed specifically to support the new elevator shaft.
